PE Leadership Event January 2024

So proud of our six pupils who attended a PE Leadership event. During the day the students went out of their comfort zones to take part in, and lead, their own warm up sessions. They had to create a sports game and demonstrate this to the other teams.

Dodgeball January 2024

Well done to our fantastic dodgeball team for competing in a tournament in Wilmslow. They had so much fun and made us so proud.

Gymnastics January 2024

Four amazing St John's gymnasts competed in a local tournament organised by the MSSP. Well done Team St John's.

Bikeability December 2023

Year 4 and Year 5 have taken part in this year's Bikeability sessions. Year 4 have acheived Level 1, while Year 5 completed their Level 2 award.

School Games Santa Dash December 2023

All classes took part in the School Games Santa Dash. Dressed in their Christmas clothes, the children joined this national initiative to get pupils active, in a fun and festive way. The children had a great time, and some even decided to strike their best reindeer pose.

Assembly by Sue Whyatt November 2023

The school was delighted to participate in a fantastic assembly led by Sue Whyatt. Sue is a former England women’s footballer. She started her career playing for the Macclesfield Ladies. In 2022, she was recognized by the FA as one of the England national team's legacy players, and as the 17th women's player to be capped.

Girls U9 5-A-Side Football Tournament November 2023

So proud of our amazing team, who scored five goals and represented St John's so magnificently at this tournament at Tytherington High School.

Gold School Games Award September 2023

We are thrilled to have retained our Gold School Games Award for the academic year 2022-2023.

Swimming Gala July 2023

Delighted to take part in the Macclesfield Swimming Gala. The children swam magnificently and represented St John's fantastically.

Sports Day June 2023

Despite the weather we had a glorious Sports Day, with a variety of sporting activities and sprint races. Congratulations to Oak Bank, our new champions!

Futsal Tournament June 2023

Year 3 and 4 girls have taken part in a Futsal Tournament at TytheringtonHigh School. After a day of competition, a third place penalty shoot out and lots of fun, they finished 4th. We are so proud of them.

Academy Programme June 2023

As part of this year's programme, the children have particiapted in Neball Academy and Golf Academy. They have also had the chance to spend more time in the Forest School as part of the Whittling Academy.

Football Tournament April 2023

Our footballers played in a tournament in which many local schools took part. They fought valiantly despite facing opposition from much larger schools, and much older children. Well done Team St John's.

Bikeability January 2023

Both Year 4 and Year 5 have taken part in this year's Bikeability sessions. Well done to them all.

Lunch Time Sport September 2022

Sam has set up sporting activites every lunch time for all the children. Pupils can sign up for a different sport each day.

Inter-School Rounders Competition July 2022

A group of Class 4 girls entered an inter-schools rounders competition at Wilmslow High School on Friday. We are so pleased that they won the small schools competition. They had great fun and were wonderfully behaved. Well done girls!

Skipping Challenge June 2022

Pupils from every class took part in a one minute skipping challenge. This was a practice run for an attempt at breaking the Guinness World Record for number of participants skipping at one time. The actual record breaking attempt will take place next year.

Quad Kids June 2022

Children from Class 4 competed in the Quad Kids sports event on Tuesday, and won the small schools competition. These superstars will now take part in the county finals on the 6th July. Well done Team St John’s! 

Football Match May 2022

Super football game against St Greg’s tonight. The team was magnificent despite losing 3-2. It was wonderful to have a competitive game played at school. Well done St John’s.

Cricket Taster Sessions April 2022

Stewart, from Chance to Shine, came to spend the day with us. Chance to Shine aims to support teachers and schools to get children playing cricket. Stewart led a fantastic assembly to start the day, discussing all the personal and physical skills involved in being a cricketer. Each class then had their own bespoke taster lesson.

Tri-Golf Tournament March 2022

Delighted to report our Tri-Golf team came second in today’s tournament at Alderley Park. What an amazing achievement - silver medalists. Congratulations to them all! 

Cross Country Spring 2022

Children from Class 3 attended a cross country event at Fallibroome High School this week. All children ran brilliantly well, completed the course and showed fantastic endurance. Whilst the teams were not placed in the top 3, they showed huge promise. Particular mention should be made of Eleanor in Year 4, who came 2nd in the girl’s race. A very well done to all runners!

Well done to our Year 5/6 girls for taking part in a very wet cross country race on Wednesday. All three girls were fantastic. Holly came 2nd overall which is a brilliant achievement. Congratulations to the girls for their team contribution!! #sport

Dance Classes Spring 2022

Along with our amazing Ministry4Sport provision, we are delighted a specialist dance teacher, Laura Kendal, is leading dance in school. She is linking the children's topic work to dance and movement.

Year 4 Celebrate Sport Festival January 2022

Children in Year 4 have attended a Celebrate Sports Festival at Tytherington High School. They participated in a circuit of different activities including golf, skipping challenges, balloon volleyball, parachute games and glow in the dark dodgeball.
The children were amazing and they all had a wonderful time.

Bikeability for Year 4 and 5 January 2022

Both Year 4 and Year 5 have taken part in wonderful Bikeability sessions this year. Year 5 had quite the adventure riding their bikes through Bollingon. Well done to them all.

Sports Ambassadors in Action January 2022

Macclesfield and District Primary Schools’ Sports Association Cross Country Autumn 2021

Our Year 5/6 children have done brilliantly in the first Cross Country meet of the new academic year, securing fourth in the girls race and first in the boys race. We are so very proud of them all!

Covid-19 Safe Sports Days Summer 2021

Children in all classes have taken part in Sports Day activities in their bubbles. 

MSSP Every Child Skips Summer 2021

All the children had a marvellous time skipping as part of the 'Every Child Skips' initiative. They were super stars even though the weather was not always kind. 

MSSP Virtual Competitions Summer 2021

We are delighted to have won the MSSP Year 5/6 tennis competition, which means the children who took part are now through to the Cheshire and Warrington Summer Virtual Finals.

Tennis Lessons Summer 2021

Class 2 are thoughly enjoying their tennis lessons this term, thanks to Point One Tennis.

Many thanks to the Cheshire Cricket Board for providing cricket sessions for all the children at St John's.

MSSP Santa Dash December 2020

All classes took part in the MSSP Santa Dash. Dressed in their Christmas clothes, the children dashed liked reindeers and pranced like huskies, while keeping fit and healthy. They joined children nationally who took part in this festive sports initiative.

MSSP and Ministry4Sport Autumn 2020

This term we have teamed up with Ministry4Sport to access top quality sports coaching. As part of our commitment to the MSSP (Macclesfield Schools Sport Partnership), we have been completing in-school competition events in the juniors. Children have competed in rugby, boccia, netball and football tournaments and the scores collated and recorded.

Year 5&6 Quicksticks Hockey Tournament January 2020

Congratulations to our Class 4 Quicksticks Hockey Team who finished third in the MSSP small schools tournament.

Change 4 Life / Dare 2 Believe Festival January 2019

Well done to the 4 pupils from across key stage 2 who represented St John's at Tytherington High School in the Change 4 Life sports festival, taking part in 6 fantastic activities ranging from golf to new age kurling.

Swimarathon November 2019

We are so proud of our Swimarathon team who swam 73 lengths at Macclesfield Leisure Centre. They were taking part in the Macclesfield and District Lions Club event.

Macclesfield Small Schools Football League 19/20 October 2019

Our U11 team played in a thrilling game on the 23rd of October, the close fought game ended in a 6-4 loss against St. Gregory's. Special mention to the children from Year 3 and 4 that stepped up a number of age groups to play.

Macclesfield Primary Schools' Under 11 7-A-Side Tournament October 2019

Well done to the U11 football team who represented the school on the 18th of October, playing for the chance to represent Macclesfield in the county football tournament in early 2020. Sadly this time out the team came up against three strong teams, losing the three games they played. Although scoring two fantastic goals during the afternoon, the team gained some valuable experience and are looking forward to upcoming football matches.

Sainsbury's School Games Award June 2019

The school has been recognised for its commitment to physical education through the curriculum and also extra-curricular sports activities.  It also recognises the commitment of the school hosting various sporting competitions and events, and the number of pupils competing in competitive competitions.

In June 2019 the school was awarded the gold mark.

Sports Day June 2019

We had a fantastic sports day with all classes taking part in activities and races. We were delighted to be joined by Vicky Jepson, the manager of the woman's Liverpool FC team.

Bollington Swimming Gala June 2019

Well done to our swimming team who were very successful in the Bollington Swimming Gala. They picked up a total of seven second places and three fourth places, and were a credit to St John's.

Squash June 2019

Children from Year 4 are taking part in our annual squash training at Bollington Leisure Centre. 

Orienteering May 2019

Children from Class 3 took part in an orienteering event at Fallibroome today. They represented the school magnificently and received some rather lovely medals.

Small Schools Football League Match May 2019

Our Year 6 football team was in action today against Wincle Primary. After a thrilling game, team St John's sealed victory 4-3.

School Squash Tournament May 2019

All the children in Years 1- 6 took part in a school squash tournament today, led by Chris Ogden. Year 6 also acted as sports leaders and helped the younger children.

Mini-Tennis April 2019

Children from Class 3 have represented St John's in a min-tennis competition in Poynton. They showed amazing skill and team work, and we are proud of them all.

Swimathon March 2019

Eight children from Class 4 have taken part in this year's Swimathon. Raising money for the Rotary Club of Macclesfield and the PTA, they all swam magnificently. Together they swam 173 lengths. Well done St John's.

All Stars Cricket March 2019

Our infants are having a taste of All Star cricket thanks to Andrew Jackson from Bollington Cricket Club.

Cross Country Macclesfield February 2019

We are once again participating in cross country competitions in Macclesfield for children in Year 3 - 6. The 10 children who are taking part, have all completed their first race and did magnificently.

Small Schools Under 9s Football Tournament January 2019

Seven children from Class 3 have represented the school in this football tournament held at Tytherington High School. I am delighted to report they secured third place and played brilliantly. Well done team!
